Alacrita is pleased to announce the promotion of Alastair Southwell to Managing Partner.
Alastair has led the US team as Vice President, Head of US Consulting, since 2020. He has played a pivotal role in the company's growth and expansion, as well as in our team achieving the highest project standards for our clients.
As a consultant, Alastair brings more than 25 years of strategic planning and product commercialization experience in large pharma and start-up environments. He has broad therapeutic area knowledge, and expertise in product strategy, launch planning, asset valuation, business development and portfolio review.
About Alastair
Alastair brings 25 years of business strategy, portfolio planning and product commercialization experience in both big pharma and start up environments. He has broad therapeutic area expertise including Oncology, infectious diseases, CNS, Pain, metabolic, CV and orphan diseases.
Most recently, he worked at a NASDAQ listed biotech company which discovered and developed biased GPCR small molecule drugs. During his time there Alastair’s responsibilities included work in corporate development, portfolio review, business development, brand strategy and launch planning.
Alastair spent 15 years at GlaxoSmithKline and its parent companies. While at GSK, he worked for several years in the external drug discovery business development unit, helping to build a virtual pipeline of >30 external discovery and development programs for which GSK had in-license options at proof-of-concept. He also spent time in strategic planning and portfolio investment analytics for the GSK genetics directorate and the biopharmaceuticals business unit. While Director of drug discovery portfolio review, Alastair played a central role in a project to focus the entire GSK drug discovery budget from 90 target disease programs down to 50. While at GlaxoWellcome and Glaxo, Alastair led business analytics for product strategy for multiple therapeutic area development franchises, including antivirals/HIV, metabolic, CV, urology and respiratory.
Alastair started his career as a Management Consultant with Arthur D Little. He holds a BSc in biochemistry from Imperial College, University of London, UK.
